A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) is a licensed healthcare professional who practices a holistic approach to health and wellness. NDs use a combination of natural therapies and treatments to support and enhance this healing process.

Naturopathic doctors receive extensive training in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and other conventional medical sciences, as well as natural therapies such as nutrition, herbal medicine, and acupuncture.

Naturopathic doctors take a patient-centred approach, spending time with their patients to understand their individual needs and health goals. They consider the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health, and work with their patients to create customized treatment plans that address the root causes of illness and promote overall well-being.

Yes! While my clinical focus is on Cancer Survivorship, health concerns common to cancer treatment can also be a result of other complications and illnesses. Yes, naturopathic doctors can work with conventional doctors. Many naturopathic doctors collaborate with medical doctors, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive and integrated care to their patients.

In some cases, a patient may see a conventional doctor for a specific medical issue and then see a naturopathic doctor for complementary or alternative treatments. In other cases, a naturopathic doctor may be the primary care provider and may refer a patient to a conventional doctor for specialized testing or treatments when necessary.

In Ontario, Naturopathic Medicine is not covered under the province's public health care plan (OHIP), meaning patients typically pay for services out of pocket. However, many private insurance plans do provide coverage for naturopathic medicine services, so it's best to check with your insurance provider to see if your policy covers naturopathic medicine.

Many people choose to pay out of pocket for naturopathic medicine because they believe in its benefits and believe that it can provide an effective alternative or complementary approach to conventional medicine.

When choosing a Naturopathic Doctor, look for someone licensed in Ontario. They should have completed 4 years in an accredited Naturopathic Medical School Program. After their education and training, NDs must pass a rigorous licensing exam in order to practice in Ontario. You will also want to consider their areas of expertise, clinical focus, and treatment philosophy.
